What to Do When You Are Staying at a Playa Del Carmen Resort

The locals refer to it as Playa and you can find Playa Del Carmen on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Not as crowded as Cancun, Playa still retains the charm of a small town, yet when the late evening rolls around, you will find it a true hotspot for some Caribbean partying.

A Playa Del Carmen resort typically has all the amenities that a vacationer desires and many will be hesitant about exploring the surrounding area, but you do yourself a disservice by not leaving the resort property and soaking in some local culture.

Xcaret EcoPark
There is much to see and do when you visit Xcaret EcoPark. It is known as a mysterious historic site, has a museum, beach, water park, and is a great place to view the native wildlife. You can hike, swim or have a dolphin encounter while you take in the natural beauty of the area. The underground river is a unique attraction and you can lazily float along underground channels and caverns. In the evening, there is a spectacular show that combines many elements of the Mayan culture including dance and music from various areas of the country.

The Walled City of Tulum
For those that want to see authentic Mayan ruins in a spectacular setting, head for Tulum. It may have been called Zama by the ancients which means “to dawn” but in 1841 explorers renamed it Tulum which means “wall.” It is one of the few walled cities that the ancients ever constructed. There is much to explore when you visit this ancient site so don’t forget your camera and be sure to bring along your bathing suit so that you can take a refreshing dip in the sea.

Diving and Snorkeling
Your Playa Del Carmen resort will probably offer you diving and snorkeling excursions, but you may be able to find trips that will not be as expensive as those offered at the resort. Bring along a guide book so that you can arrange your own excursions at a better price to leave you more money for the pulsating nightlife of the area.

The Night Belongs to You
The Playa Del Carmen resort you choose will offer guests nightlife, but you may want to get out on your own to see what is waiting for you outside the gates of your resort. Playa Del Carmen does not get the influx of students on spring break as does Cancun. Fifth Avenue is a tourist spot where you will be able to find the ideal place to have a drink and do some dancing while you listen to the beats of the region.
